Oasis Family Restaurant
The Oasis Family Restaurant was purchased a few years ago by El Paso restaurateur and cook Armando Almanza. Armando grew up in a family who operated restaurants in Los Angeles, California. Helping in the kitchen, he learned to love cooking for others, how to create recipes of his own, and how to make sure his customers enjoyed their meals. Over the past eleven years, Armando has perfected his menu and recipes as the owner and cook at Las Fuentes Restaurant on the west side. He has added several steak and seafood dishes especially for the Oasis menu.
Although Oasis serves up scrumptious Mexican Food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it also offers steaks, seafood, burgers, soups, and other dishes. The Oasis Family Restaurant patterns itself after a 1950s diner; with all the relaxed, happy atmosphere of that era. Sit at the counter if you like!
The building at 3524 Pershing Drive has been a restaurant for decades. It was originally owned by El Paso businessman and two-term Mayor Fred Hervey. Hervey is best known as the founder of the internationally successful Circle K convenience store chain, which he began in 1951.
Las Fuentes Restaurant
When Armando's parents moved to El Paso from Los Angeles in 1993, they continued the family tradition and opened restaurants. Their first Las Fuentes opened in Canutillo, and others popped up in the area. The Las Fuentes Restaurant at 5300 Doniphan opened in 1999. It was sold to Armando in 2001 when his parents decided to retire. Las Fuentes, like the Oasis, is also colorful and bright inside, and carries the same delicious menu. It does not currently offer some of the steaks and seafood selections offered at the Oasis.
Next time you are on the far west side, come by and enjoy a meal at Las Fuentes Restaurant! (The long time and very popular Las Fuentes Restaurant at 3033 McRae is owned and operated by Armando's mother, Guadalupe Salidaña.)
